π How to Apply to PalFish in 2025 (With Zero Stress)
By The ESL Traveling Teacher
So… you’ve heard the rumours:
"Teach English from your phone!"
"Make money in your pyjamas!"
"Get paid to talk to kids online!"
Sounds dodgy, right? But here’s the truth: PalFish is legit — and I’ve been teaching on it for years. If you’ve got a bit of patience, a sense of humour, and a phone that isn’t 10 years old, this guide is for you.
π± Step 1: Download the App
Start by downloading the PalFish Teacher App (not the student app!) from the App Store. It’s the blue icon with the cute little fish. You’ll create your teaching profile right inside the app.
π§π« Step 2: Set Up Your Profile
This is your shop window — so make it sparkle.
You’ll need:
A friendly profile photo (head and shoulders, smiling).
A short bio about you (keep it warm, fun, and professional).
A video introduction (30–90 seconds) — smile, speak clearly, and keep it simple!
Bonus points if you show off a prop or two in the video.
✅ What You Need to Apply (2025 Version)
Let’s bust a few myths while we’re at it:
❌ No, you don’t need a degree.
✅ Yes, you’ll need a TEFL or TESOL certificate.
(There are tons online for under $50.)
You’ll also need:
A neutral native English accent (UK, US, Ireland, Canada, Australia, NZ, or South Africa).
A decent smartphone or tablet (iPads work best).
A quiet space, good WiFi, and a cheerful attitude.
A blue T-shirt for your teaching video (yep, it’s a thing).
π¨ Props & Background Tips (Keep It Cheap!)
Don’t let this stress you out — no one’s expecting a full Disney set.
Here’s what works:
A small soft toy or puppet.
A few flashcards (draw them yourself or print off Google).
Bright shapes or colours on your wall.
A DIY name tag.
Simple and fun works better than fancy and fake.
π§ Step 3: Complete the Bootcamp (All Done Inside the App)
After uploading your documents, you’ll unlock the PalFish Bootcamp — a self-paced intro to how lessons work. You’ll learn the basics of teaching with TPR (gestures), praising students, and managing online classes.
No live trainer. No pressure. Just read, watch, and click through at your pace.
π¬ Step 4: Do the Demo Class (AI-Style!)
Here’s the big change in 2025: the demo class is now marked by AI.
You’ll record yourself teaching a pretend student using their lesson slides. The AI will look for:
Smiling face π
TPR (hand gestures) π
Clear instructions π£
Use of props π§Έ
Energy and engagement ⚡️
No awkward roleplay with a staff member pretending to be 5 years old — just you, your phone, and your best acting skills!
πΈ Getting Paid: Payoneer & Payment Schedule
Once you're teaching, you’ll get paid via Payoneer — super simple to set up.
You can choose to be paid:
Monthly
Or twice a month (every 15 days)
Just make sure you hit the minimum withdrawal threshold and link your bank details. That’s it.
π What Happens Next?
Once your demo is passed, you're officially a PalFish teacher! π
You’ll start getting bookings (usually slow at first), build a student base, and teach from anywhere in the world — beach, cafe, or couch.
☕️ Final Tips from Me
Don’t overthink your intro video — just be friendly and clear.
Use simple props — a sock puppet is fine!
Treat it like a real classroom — but with slippers.
Give it time — it builds slowly.
